This meeting marks the launch of a series of successive steps to support efforts designed to deepen coordination and complementarity between the two institutions in order to ensure the correct and fair application of competition law, establish the principles of the rule of law, and ensure transparency in economic relations, so as to establish good governance that promotes the efficiency and modernization of the national economy, attracts investment, and ensures consumer protection.
In his speech, the President Delegate of the CSPJ, Mr. M’hammed Abdennabaoui, said that this workshop is held as part of the partnership between the two Councils aiming at sharing knowledge and expertise and establishing cooperation ties between authorities and national institutions, in accordance with the Constitution. The workshop also aims to expand the knowledge of judges in this area, so as to become familiar with the fields of application of the competition law and broaden their knowledge, in order to improve their judicial performance and fair application of the law.
The President Delegate also affirmed that the purpose of regulating competition and prohibiting practices against the law is to ensure fair competition and guarantee the interests of economic operators, as well as to prevent dominance that devastates small businesses and auto-entrepreneurs, and harms consumers’ rights and well-being.
For his part, the President of the Competition Council, Mr. Ahmed Rahhou, stressed during the opening session the importance of unifying the visions as to the understanding and interpreting of legal texts on competition in markets, as well as the accumulation of expertise and judicial jurisprudence.
Mr. Rahhou noted that through this initiative, the Council is committed to working with courts responsible for issuing final rulings on appeals submitted to them, so as to create a jurisprudence database in this area, in a manner that contributes to the establishment of a climate of confidence, the strengthening of judicial security, and the providing of better visibility to economic actors and investors.
It is worth noting that several judges and rapporteurs of the Competition Council will take part in this workshop on “Competition Law”. The workshop will be held on, June 6-7, 2022, at the headquarters of the Supreme Council of the Judicial Power.
